25 Years of Girls on the Run Georgia: Assurant

Girls on the Run Georgia is celebrating 25 years of inspiring confidence in girls across Georgia, and each month, we’re spotlighting supporters who have played a crucial role in shaping our council.

This month, we’re proud to spotlight Assurant, a partner whose commitment to community has made a lasting and meaningful impact. Our connection with Assurant began in 2016, when a member of their HR team joined our Board of Directors and helped strengthen our operations during an important period of growth. That same year, employee volunteers joined us at our spring 5K and Assurant contributed a $5,000 sponsorship, setting the stage for what would soon become a truly remarkable partnership.

Since then, Assurant’s support has flourished. Today, they are our largest corporate partner, contributing $212,000 cumulatively in financial support to Girls on the Run Georgia. Their generosity has opened doors for girls across our state to join our program who may not have otherwise been able to participate, helping ensure access, opportunity, and the full Girls on the Run experience.

Assurant’s support stands out because it goes far beyond sponsorship dollars. Their employees continue to show up in powerful ways. To date, 65 Assurant volunteers have supported our 5K events in person, offering high-energy engagement, leadership, and connection. Even more volunteers have participated virtually, handwriting encouragement notes to participants! As the Presenting Sponsor of four spring 5K events, the Assurant team has helped bring to life some of the most memorable elements of the day: from friendship bracelet stations and button-making, to providing fun giveaways for coaches and participants. Their volunteers have become a friendly and familiar presence at the finish line and along the course, always ready to cheer, celebrate, and encourage.

One of the most special parts of this partnership has been watching members of the Assurant community experience Girls on the Run personally. Several employees have had daughters participate in our program, and one Assurant leader has run our 5K alongside his daughter year after year– first when she was a Girls on the Run participant, and now as a high schooler still proudly returning. Moments like these remind us that Girls on the Run doesn’t just create joyful memories for participants– it brings families and workplaces together in meaningful and lasting ways.

Over the years, Assurant’s partnership has evolved from sponsorship to shared mission. They are a true example of what it looks like when a corporate partner believes in the power of community and invests in the potential of girls. Not just with funding, but with time, presence, and heart.

As we close out celebrating 25 years of Girls on the Run Georgia, we are deeply grateful for Assurant’s continued partnership and support. Their commitment ensures that more girls across Georgia can build confidence, strengthen friendships, discover their voice, and cross the 5K finish line with pride today and for many years to come.
