Girls on the Run Georgia is celebrating 25 years of inspiring confidence in girls across Georgia, and each month, we’re spotlighting supporters who have played a crucial role in shaping our council.
This month, we’re proud to spotlight the Girls on the Run Board of Directors (GOTR BOD). Founded in 2000 alongside Girls on the Run Georgia, the GOTR BOD provides vital leadership, strategic oversight, and mission-driven guidance that propels our organization forward.
As our organization has evolved, so has our BOD. What began as a hands-on group supporting day-to-day operations–packing coach bags, coordinating 5Ks, and even managing payroll–has grown into a skilled and passionate group of volunteers focused on high-level governance, financial health, and long-term impact. Today, our BOD helps chart our path, ensuring we remain focused on expanding access to our programs that support girls' health, confidence, and joy.
Board members are thoughtfully recruited from across our community–corporate partners, coach alumni, our Young Professionals Board, and even former program participants. They reflect the racial and ethnic diversity of the communities we serve and bring wide-ranging experiences, perspectives, and talents.
“As a former YPB member and now Board Secretary, I have watched Girls on the Run Georgia experience tremendous growth over the last decade: the organization's strategy has become more defined, the programs' execution has reached new levels of excellence, and most importantly the number of total girls impacted by GOTR increases,” says Lauren Freedman, longtime supporter and Board member. “In the future I expect GOTR to achieve greater success by connecting with more groups and advocates within the community to continue to help girls recognize their potential in the metro Atlanta and Georgia areas."
Girls on the Run Georgia wouldn’t be where it is today without the dedication, vision, and heart of every Board member who has helped guide our mission over the past 25 years. We are deeply grateful for their leadership–past and present–as we look ahead to our next chapter.
